Penguin Parade - Phillip Island

When you visit Phillip Island you have to come and visit the Penguin Parade, Prices start from A$17.40 for general viewing, we bought tickets for the Penguin Plus - A$29.50 which gave us a better view of the penguins coming up to shore...Let's Go for our tour

The main entrace of the Penguin Parade, after this point no camera were allowed, if caught taking photos your cameras will be confiscated...so the rest of the photos come from the booklet I bought at the souvenir shop...
After paying the entrance fee, we were given free coffee, tea or hot chocolate because we bought the penguin plus tickets, then at about 5.30pm they opened the doors for us to start walking to our viewing platform, above is the general viewing platform but ours was different, we had a special platform where we sat and waitied for the penguins....
We waited about over 45 mins before we caught a glimpse of the little penguins following the tide up to shore, our ranger told us that these penguins have been out at sea for about 3 to 4 days before returning to their burrows with food and to rest....

The penguins come up to the main shore in either small groups or large groups, varying from sizes of 20 or 30 to a few hundred...the stop at the beach and wait for the others to come out of the sea and they begin their walk together....

These penguins then make their walk up from the shore to the foreground where we were seated, they then separated into smaller groups to travel up further the hills and search for their burrows, each penguin has their own partner and burrow...and every day they return to the same home...

This is an example of the man made burrows for the penguins, sometimes during the difficult season, rangers put food inside their homes to help them and also check the young in the burrows and do more studies about the penguins...some of these penguins have to climb up steep hills to get to their homes....those penguins who remained in their burrows the whole day wake up and stand at the entrance of the burrow and start calling out to those who have returned...you can hear them from far even when we went back to the main entrance..the sounds of penguins could still be heard...

This is a penguin made burrow, a hole is dug from the side of the hill, this burrow even has natural curtains to cover their burrow....The penguins return for the night and before day break some of them leave again to go fishing....hundreds of kilometres away....this was a great chance for us to view Happy Penguins reuniting and Happy Penguin Feets....

At the end of our we went to shop at the souvenir shop and I took this photo for mum and dad with the huge stuffed koala...
